Accra - A Wonderful Destination for an Ultimate Vacation

When I came to know that next travel conference sponsored by our company is going to be organized at Accra in Ghana, I was worried. I was not aware about this destination. After the destination was finalized, I started accumulating information about this place. I was amazed to read so many attractions in this destination and started looking forward for the conference. Travel Department of my company was responsible for booking tickets. Since bulk tickets were to be bought, we got to choose from among several best flight deals. The first step towards this visit was to buy airline tickets. Next rest of the preparations started in earnest.

Accra, the capital of Ghana is considered to be one of the prosperous cities in Africa. The culture of the place is an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary culture. Soon the day came, when along with my friends, I landed at Kotoka Airport. The feel of the place was quite friendly. I was amazed to see many tourists coming there to spend their vacations. The place enjoys convenient connections to US and several European countries. As soon as I reached my hotel, I got busy to prepare for the conference. Next day, after the conference was over, I decided to indulge in some sightseeing. After lot of research, I had decided to visit some attractions that appealed me most. Travel Desk at my hotel readily booked a city tour for me. This was the best way to see the city in a short span of time. Later on I realized, it was simply not enough. The tour took us to the famous Makola Market which is a popular shopping area in the city. A wide spectrum of goods ranging from clothes, footwear to electronic items is readily available here. Many tourists coming here through cheap flights to Accra were shopping at this market. Since several flights to Accra like Turkish Airlines are available these days, it is not difficult to get cheap tickets to Accra.

Next we went to the National Museum where we enjoyed a variety of displays like pottery, fine art, textiles, sculptures and many more. We were amazed to see Zulu statues made up of wood. There were popular carvings from Congo. After visiting this museum, we took a break for lunch. We were taken to one of the best restaurant in the city offering a range of cuisines appealing the palate of tourists coming from different areas of the world. Here was something for everyone. After lunch, we visited the beach area. Here we were required to pay an entrance fee. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the beaches. We had a wonderful time there.

Next day, after one session of my conference was over; I visited Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum on my own. I had read a lot about it so was curious about this place. This is a memorial dedicated to the Ghana’s first President. The day came to an end and the next day I had to fly back home. I decided to visit this beautiful destination once again.
